Here at Transpeak, our team can provide assessment, advice and treatment options for communication and/or feeding difficulties.  The types of conditions a speech pathologist can treat include:

Speech

Speech refers to how clearly your child can talk. More specifically, does your child:

  • Mix up their sounds? For example, says ‘tat’ for ‘cat’
  • Talk ‘jibberish’ and most people find it hard to understand them?
  • Struggle to get sounds or words out? For example, says ‘m-m- mum’
  • Repeat words or phrases? For example, says ‘but, but, but I can’

Language

There are two components to language: receptive (understanding) and expressive (ability to express needs and wants). More specifically, does your child:

  • Not follow instructions at home or in school?
  • Have difficulties telling you what they want or how they feel?
  • Have no words at 2 years old?
  • Speak more than 2 languages, but mixes them up?
  • Have difficulties understanding what you say?
  • Ask you to repeat yourself often?
  • Struggle to maintain ‘pass’ grades for English?

Feeding/Swallowing

Feeding/swallowing skills start from birth and are vital for good growth and nutrition. Feeding/swallowing skills refer to how well your child can eat and drink foods and fluids for their age. More specifically, does your child:

  • Refuse to eat or bottle/breast feed?
  • Choke or gag on certain food textures?
  • Eat a limited range of food?
  • Struggle to eat or drink enough volume each mealtime?

Literacy

The ability to identify and sequence sounds in words and decode written text are important for the development of reading skills in children. More specifically, does your child:

  • Have difficulties sound out words in a book?
  • Substitute words when reading?
  • Struggle to understand or answer questions about a book?

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above questions or have concerns with how your child is communicating and/or feeding, then please contact us to make an initial appointment.
